It’s no surprise, if you follow my personal pinterest, that I’m planning a wedding. How brides got anything organized before pinterest will forever be a wonder to me – but even more so, how they found inspiration before wedding blogs, well, that I just simply can’t wrap my head around. Sure, a girl can flip through a magazine but seeing actual weddings – and interacting with other brides, well, that’s the stuff good black holes of time are made out of.
Anyways, today’s We’re Loving is a certain wedding blog I’ve gotten lost on a ton lately, Grey Likes Weddings. Boundless inspiration aside, I’m featuring stylist, Summer Watkins (aka GREY) because her blog’s design is on point. A smart logo and color palette, cute attention to details in the post meta (think title, dates, comments) and pagination, and most specifically a well-designed sidebar…
As a designer, the sidebar can be risky territory if you have a blogger that’s maintaining it on their own. Why? Well, simple things like keeping all advertising and content the same width can make a world of a difference – and this is what Summer has done so well. If one loses sight of these details, it can start to look pretty wonky, pretty quickly.
Let’s break it down:
1) The two biggest sections of the site have been nicely called out with photos layered with matching text. This is such a nice way to carry out the blog’s look and feel while making a link to another section, for lack of a better term, pretty.
2) Miss Grey has expanded with two additional blogs (baby and nesting) – and has cleanly added them here in a non-obtrusive way, keeping with her design.
3) Follow and find – instead of distracting colors, she’s kept her social media icons light grey, sized neatly in a row and separated with her signature dotted lines. Note – we’re still keeping everything in here the same width!
4) No typical search bar here but a reversed bar, housed in a grey dotted pattern that alludes this is once again the same width (so smart).
5) Advertisers are kept to the same width, and the call to advertise is subtle and in tune with design scheme.
6) Look at this lovely, large newsletter signup! Yes, it’s taking up almost 500px of space but it’s clean and white and makes any bride want to join.

This week we’ve been burning a lot of time on Piece of Cake/Peace of Mind, a lifestlye blog based out of Vancouver. Blogger Kendra covers everything from graphic design and fashion to addictively colorful photos of her many adventures.
Our favorite part? We love the way Kendra facilitates a weekly conversation with her Tea Party Posts. Started as a means for her readers to get to know her better, Kendra creates a list of questions every week for herself and her readers, instantly sparking discussion and creating an adorable online space for like-minded chicas!
